PTDC/SAU-BEB/102247/2008Hybrid electro-optical microfluidic device for single cell analysis
In this project, partners with complementary expertise (INESC TEC – Optoelectronics, CENIMAT – Material Science, ITQB – Biomolecular diagnostic) joined together in the development of a new optofluidic chip capable of optical and electrical characterization of biological fluids and single cells. The technology under development allows multiple measurements to be performed simultaneously with extremely reduced sample volumes enabling an improved analytical diagnostic tool. In this particular project the goal is to analyze red blood cells (RBC) using simultaneously impedance spectroscopy and refractive index measurements aiming for a better discrimination of infected and healthy cells. Nevertheless the technology is versatile and will allow a diversity of analytical applications.
