Project Title:

Photo-controlled fluidic movement and detection


In this project, we will aim to produce microfluidic systems in which fluid movement and detection are are based on photonics. This will require the development of at effective photoresponsive polymer valve structures, photoswitchable channel surface characteristics like hydrophobicity and binding behaviour, control of nanofeatured structures within channels, strategies for efficient surface functionalisation and coating. Specific objectives will comprise stop/go/divert liquid movement, photocontrolled accumulation and release of targeted species, optical transduction and detection of binding/release behaviour, photocontrolled fluidic features (filtering, channel dimensions etc.)
